The founder of RCC, Dr. Craig Shifrin has been involved in the mental health field since 1979. He has 30 years of mental health, 15 years forensic, 15 years neuropsychological, 12 years addictions, 10 years diagnosing and counseling sex offenders, 10 years in violence risk assessments in juveniles and adults, and 8 years state approved DUI evaluator and treatment provider in Illinois.
He served as a teacher, consultant/lecturer, diagnostician, psychotherapist promoted as clinical director in both residential/day treatment center for children and adolescents (ages 5 to 15) where he was also the program administrator for a sexually reactive residential program; and also has been a clinical director in a state wide sex offender prison treatment program in various settings and with all age groups.
Dr. Shifrin has several specialties and subspecialties. Some of these include child custody, children/adolescent behavioral disabilities, traumatic brain injury and dementia, criminal responsibility, competency to stand trial evaluator, sex offenders of all age groups, Dept. of Family Services ward assessments, Domestic Violence, disability, PTSD, workmans compensation evaluation, personal injury as a psychotherapist and diagnostician and determination of violence risk within the workplace.
Dr. Shifrin has also served as forensic expert witness in both federal and state cases and conducted civil commitment and violence risk assessments. He has completed well over 2,500 psychological/psycho-educational and neuropsychological assessments in both clinical and legal settings with all age groups. Within the subspecialty area of Behavioral Health Dr. Shifrin uses an integrated approach with an emphasis on Cognitive Therapy. This type of treatment involves understanding how our belief systems impact our feelings and behaviors.
Dr. Craig has worked in many different mental health settings including but not limited to a Psychiatric Hospital, Nursing Home, Department of Corrections (in prison) and Division of Youth Services. Dr. Shifrin has a long history working with government agencies such as Missouri Department of Corrections, Department of Probation and Parole, Department of Rehabilitative Services, National Anti-Crime Institute of America, Department of Disability Determination and the Department of Family Services in both Missouri and Illinois and Social Services. Dr. Shifrin has also consulted and lectured to probation and parole officers in four different states (Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Louisiana).
